Projects and writing from the layer everything else runs on.

American. Engineer. Thinker.

Welcome to my corner of the Internet Clearnet. I write here about the things I build and the things I take apart — cloud infrastructure, security, embedded hardware, radio, and the protocols holding the rest of it together. Most of it grew out of years spent at a tty, and most of it still starts there.

Lately I’ve been thinking less about individual systems and more about the architecture of the Internet itself: who it gets built for, and what it takes to build something quieter. That’s where the writing on overlay networks and decentralized protocols comes from.

Away from the keyboard, it’s usually history or philosophy, hardware that wasn’t meant to be opened, or somewhere outdoors without a signal. Stay a while — there’s usually something here worth reading.
